Two-field formulations for isogeometric Reissner–Mindlin plates and shells with global and local condensation

Abstract In this paper, mixed formulations are presented in the framework of isogeometric Reissner–Mindlin plates and shells with aim alleviating membrane shear locking. The based on Hellinger-Reissner functional use stress resultants as additional unknowns, which have to be interpolated appropriate approximation spaces. unknowns can eliminated by static condensation. analysis condensation is performed globally patch level, leads a high computational cost. Thus, two local approaches existing continuous method presented, an approach discontinuous resultant fields at element boundaries reconstructed blending control variables using weights order compute global ones. Both allow for level instead level. Various numerical examples investigated verify accuracy effectiveness different comparison elements that include mechanisms against locking carried out.

We develop isogeometric collocation methods in standard and mixed formulations as well as Galerkin methods using an alternative set of discrete variables.
